ABOUT ME
Born and raised in Kansas City, MO - yes Kansas City is in Missouri - I’ve had a complicated relationship with fashion and shopping. As you can imagine living in a Midwest flyover state meant our options were somewhat limited. I always looked forward to family reunions in the summer, because it always meant travel to a bigger city with the best malls. I longed to have those same options at home.
Then came the internet...and then internet shopping. Lots of great retailers also expanded into the area in 2005 and on. I had everything I wanted at my fingertips - and I went in. Over the years I did a lot shopping which meant a lot of clothes, a bloated closet, and unfortunately for me - alot of debt. In a fit of grief over a devastating loss, I emptied my closet. Hours later I stood there gazing at the large trash bags and boxes packed for donation. 80% of the contents were either new or worn once. By my rough estimate the money spent (and now being donated) would’ve been enough to pay off my house. I was saddened, embarrassed and angry. How did I get here?
From that point forward I have taken active measures to ensure that never happens again. I will never be anti-shopping. But I am anti-excess, anti-overspending and most of all anti-having a closet that is not full of purpose and joy. Curation is key. Excess is just noise.
Is your closet serving you well? Does your closet spark joy? If not, then I invite you to join me on this journey of creating a closet with purpose. No one deserves a mediocre closet. You, yes YOU, deserve the best!
